What are the commonly used materials for tea packaging bags?

In recent years, the health benefits of tea have received considerable attention. In order to promote tea promotion, some tea merchants have emphasized the efficacy of packaging labels, which can easily raise doubts and disputes about whether the tea product should be treated as general food, healthy food, or medicine. Therefore, the tea industry improvement field hopes that the labeling of tea packaging should return to the essence of tea as a natural and hygienic daily hobby, in order to prevent unnecessary disputes.

Currently, there are no strict regulations on the labeling of tea packaging, mainly due to the fact that most tea businesses are self-produced, self-made, and self sold. However, clear labeling of the tea variety, manufacturing date, place of origin, manufacturer, and drinking method will help promote tea and establish a brand.

The materials commonly used for tea packaging bags include:

1、 PE bag (plastic bag)

Polyethylene bags, also known as PE bags, are widely used packaging materials nowadays. There are generally two types of bags: low-density PE bags and high-density PE bags. Low density PE bags have greater moisture permeability and breathability, while high-density PE bags are smaller.

The advantages of PE bags are economy, low cost, and good moisture resistance, while their disadvantages are poor transparency and gas resistance, which cannot be applied individually to tea packaging. It is best to add a layer of outer packaging that can block light and have low breathability when using polyethylene bags for packaging, such as synthetic paper cans, iron cans, etc.: PE bags have high breathability and are difficult to handle the oxygen problem inside the packaging bags, making them not ideal packaging materials.

2、 Metal iron cans

The advantages of metal iron cans are compression resistance and good texture. In the early stage, they were mainly used in conjunction with PE bag inner packaging for tea outer packaging. However, due to their high price and susceptibility to corrosion, rust, and deformation, they have gradually been phased out. The paint smell and insufficient sealing of the lid inside the metal iron can should not be used separately.

3、 Synthetic paper can

Synthetic paper cans are currently the most widely used packaging material, with the advantages of being economical, lightweight, and aesthetically pleasing. However, they still have high breathability and moisture permeability, and should not be used alone. It is best to use them in conjunction with PE bags or aluminum foil laminated bags for internal packaging.

4、 Aluminum foil laminated bag

Aluminum foil laminated bags are beautiful and generous, with the advantages of being opaque, moisture-proof, and oxygen resistant. However, they are more expensive than PE bags, and there may be squeezing problems when used alone. Aluminum foil laminated bags can be subjected to vacuum or nitrogen filling or deoxygenation treatment. Combined with packaging paper boxes or synthetic paper cans, tea storage can be improved in terms of moisture resistance, gas resistance, light avoidance, and oxygen free treatment. Low temperature storage is the most perfect method for tea preservation.

5、 Glass cans, magnetic cans, wooden boxes, paper boxes

Although glass jars have excellent air and moisture resistance, they are transparent, fragile, heavy, and expensive. Magnetic or ceramic jars can avoid light but are similar to glass jars in terms of fragility and heaviness. Improper handling of wooden boxes can easily lead to the absorption of odors and moisture absorption and breathability of tea leaves. Paper boxes or bags are prone to moisture absorption and breakage, and these materials are not ideal tea packaging materials.
